私は旅行が好きです！日本国内であれ、海外であれ、いつも新しい場所を発見し、新しい食べ物を試すことを楽しんでいます。
タイに数年住んでいたけれど、プーケットには行ったことがなかった。そこで昨年8月のお盆休みに、タイ南部の超有名なこの島を訪れることにした。
私と一緒に来て！後悔しないよ！
I like to travel! Whether it is within Japan, or overseas, I always enjoy discovering new places, and trying new food.
Even though I lived in Thailand for a few years, I had never been to Phuket. So last August, for the bon holidays, I decided it was time to visit this very famous island in the south of Thailand. Come with me, you won’t regret it!
旅行にはお金がかかる！ 〜Traveling is expensive!〜
普段あまり旅行に行かない人は、タイは遠いし、飛行機代も高いと感じるかもしれない。でも、今回は福岡→バンコク→プーケットで往復47,000円、しかもお盆休みという物価が高くなりがちな時期！ホテルも7泊で一人31,000円でした。
If you don’t often travel, Thailand can seem far, and maybe expensive to fly to. But this time, the flight from Fukuoka -> Bangkok -> Phuket was only 47,000￥ round trip, and it was during the bon holidays, when prices tend to be more expensive! The hotels for a total of 7 nights were also only 31,000￥ per person.
飛行機も福岡からバンコクまで5時間30分、バンコクからプーケットまで1時間30分。
The flight from Fukuoka to Bangkok is also only taking 5:30 hours and from Bangkok to Phuket, it’s 1:30 hour.
つまり、タイへの旅費は安く、しかもそれほど遠くないのだ！
In short, it’s cheap to travel to Thailand, and it’s not very far!
楽園での1週間 〜A week in paradise〜
タイ南部の小さな島々に入ったことがあったので、今回もある程度は予測できていた。でも、どんなに心の準備をしていても、島の綺麗な水や緑豊かな風景には毎回感動させられる！
In the past, I traveled to smaller islands in the south of Thailand, so I knew what to expect. But no matter how much you prepare yourself, it always feels amazing to arrive on an island where the water has an amazing color and the scenery is very green!
プーケットも同じで、きれいで、緑が多くて、海がとてもよく見える！
Phuket is the same, it’s beautiful, green and the sea looks great!
私たちは島の南部、カロンビーチとカタビーチの間から滞在を始めました。
静かな場所が好きな私達にはベストな場所です。でも、ナイトライフやたくさんのアクティビティが好きなら、パトンビーチ周辺に滞在することをお勧めします。
We started our stay in the south of the island, between Karon and Kata beach.
We like quiet places, so it’s best to stay in that area. But if you prefer the night-life and a lot of activities, we recommend staying around Patong beach.
最初の数日間は、こんな感じで穏やかな毎日を過ごした：
- ビーチで朝を迎える
- ローカルマーケットでランチ
- 日中の一番暑い時間帯には、屋内でアクティビティ（フットマッサージなど）
- 寺院巡り
The first few days, our daily routine was simple:
- Beach in the morning
- Lunch at the local market
- Inside activities during the hottest part of the day (foot massage, etc.)
- Visiting temples
象を救え 〜Save the elephants!〜
タイといえば象乗り。しかし、これは多くの観光客を惹きつけるため、象があまり良い扱いを受けていないことが非常に多い。だから、このアクティビティはお勧めしない。
その代わりに、私たちは象の保護施設を訪れることにした。彼らは強制労働をさせられていた象を救出し、残りの人生を彼らの敷地内で自由に暮らせるようにしている。
One thing Thailand is known for is riding elephants. However, because this attracts a lot of tourists, very often, the elephants are not treated very well. So I do not recommend this activity.
Instead, we decided to visit an elephant sanctuary. They rescue elephants that were forced to work and allow them to live freely on their property for the rest of their lives.
これには莫大な費用がかかるので、保護区の訪問者は入園料を払うことになっている。
そこでは象に餌をやったり、一緒に写真を撮ったり、象について学んだりすることができる。ゾウにもいろいろな性格があるのが面白い。
人間のそばにいるのが嫌いな象もいれば、まったく平気な象もいる。
This costs a lot of money, so in exchange, people can pay to come and visit the sanctuary. There you can feed the elephants, take pictures with them, and learn more about them. It is funny to see that elephants have different personalities. Some don’t like being around humans, while others are totally fine with it.
一番素晴らしいと思ったのは、ここでは嫌がる象を閉じ込めたりしないこと。
ある象が写真に興味がなくて立ち去った時も、保護区のスタッフ達はその象を引き止めなかった。
象達が大切にされていることが分かったし、観光客も象達に敬意を払わざるを得ないのはとても良いことだと思う。
What I appreciated the most, is that they do not force elephants to be here. One elephant did not want to stay to take pictures, and they let her go wherever she wanted to. Seeing how the sanctuary staff reacted in that situation made me realize that they really cared for the elephants, and the tourists had to accept that.
島を移動！ 〜Changing islands!〜
プーケット周辺には他にも小さな島があるので、そこに行って時間を過ごすのもいい。
今回はピピ島に行くことにした。変な名前だ！
Because there are other smaller islands around Phuket, it is also nice to go and spend some time there. This time, we decided to go to Phi Phi island. Funny name!
プーケットからピピ島まではスピードボートで1時間。でも正直なところ、船酔いしやすい人は、普通のフェリーボート（こちらは2時間かかる）に乗ることをお勧めします。
We took a speedboat from Phuket to the island, and it took only 1 hour. But honestly, if you easily get sea sick, we recommend taking the regular ferry boat (this one takes 2 hours).
桟橋からリゾートまでは道路がないので、到着後はタクシーボートに乗らなければならない。そう、道路がないのだ！ホテルへは船でしか行けないのだ。ボートを何艘も乗り継いで時間がかかると思うかもしれないが、正直言ってそれだけの価値はある！
Once we arrived, we also had to take a taxi boat all the way to our resort, because there is no road to go from the pier to there! Yes, you read that right, there is no road! The hotel is only accessible via boat. You may think that it’s a lot of boats to take, and it takes a lot of time, but honestly it was absolutely worth it!
私たちが訪れたビーチはほとんど人がいなくて、水は透き通っていて、かわいい猫がたくさんいて、食事もおいしかった。
これ以上何を求めればいいの？
The beach we had access to was almost empty, the water was crystal clear, there were many cute cats and the food was good. What more can you ask for!
プーケット市内 〜Phuket city〜
ピピ島で2泊した後、私たちはプーケットに戻り、プーケット市内の近くに滞在した。
After spending two nights on Phi Phi island, we returned to Phuket and stayed closer to Phuket city.
この街はタイで最も古い街のひとつで、中国とポルトガルの文化の影響を色濃く受けている。そのため、非常に特徴のあるカラフルな家がたくさんある。
The city is one of the oldest cities in Thailand, and it is heavily influenced by Chinese and Portuguese cultures. Because of that, there are a lot of colorful houses with very distinctive features.
そこで普通に買い物を楽しむのもよかった。
プーケティークという有名なカフェにも立ち寄った。ここはトーストしたパンにアイスクリームとさまざまなトッピングを添えてくれる。
私はコムハニー入りのものを選んだ。
コムハニーって食べたことある？世界で一番好きなもののひとつなんだ！
It was nice to be there and just enjoy regular shopping.
We also made a stop at a very famous cafe called Phuketique. It serves toasted bread with ice cream and different toppings. I chose honey with honeycomb.
Have you ever eaten honeycomb? That’s one of my favorite things in the world!
コムハニーとは？
生の蜂蜜を含むミツロウから作られた一連の六角形のセルの蜂の巣のことです。
プーケット市内で一夜を過ごした後、家に帰る時間になった！象にバイバイ、ビーチにバイバイ、マンゴーともち米にバイバイ。このような美しい場所を離れるのはいつも辛い。でも旅の醍醐味は、家に戻ってくつろぎ、自分のベッドで眠ることだ！
After a night in Phuket city, it was time to go home! Bye bye elephants, bye bye beach, bye bye mango and sticky rice. It’s always hard to leave such beautiful places. But the best part of traveling: going back to your house, feeling at home, and sleeping in your own bed!
